Here at Hellendag, we're serious about silk. Each type of silk has
its own distinctive look and feel, its own advantages, and character.
We want you to be happy with your hand painted silk purchase so we
hope you’ll take the time to become familiar with silk. Then you’ll
be able to make the best choice. Here is a sampling of fabrics you’ll
find at Hellendag.
Flat Crepe
This is my absolute favorite silk fabric. It is lightweight and and
smooth. It feels cool to the touch and has a sensuous flow and shimmery
surface.
Silk Charmeuse
Charmeuse is very, very soft to the touch. This is a heavier silk
with a smooth shiny surface on the front and a matte finish on the
back. It feels cool to the touch. Colors on Charmeuse seem to glow.
Silk Satin
This is very much like Charmeuse, but in a lighter fabric. This is
a devine fabric which feels rich and smooth and has a beautiful drape.
Habotai
This fabric is also known as China silk. It is what most people imagine
when they think of silk. It has a light, smooth texture with a soft,
slightly shiny surface.
Chiffon
This is a very elegant, translucent and lightweight fabric with a
matte finish and lovely drape. When you drape a chiffon scarf it stays
where you put it.
Crepe de Chine
A little heavier and more densely woven than Chiffon, Crepe de China
has a soft opaque surface. It is slightly stretchy with a lovely drape
and a matte finish.
Silk Velvet
This heavy fabric feels like velvet should - super soft, rich and
elegant. It has a heavy drape. Some scarves are solid velvet and others
are cut velvet with stripes or patterns "burned" out of the soft nap.
Silk Velvet is a blend of silk and rayon.
We would love to hear from you.
